the joy of winter break

My last winter break as a college student!
Hopefully by next Christmas break, I'll be productive with finishing up with prerequisite courses, volunteering at a hospital, working, & applying to nursing schools :]
The joy of this winter break consisted of: being a homebody, eating good old Korean food, jogging in the morning [or as much as I can, hehe], re-watching my favorite winter drama [I'm Sorry, I love you], reading random books, churching, & playing with the friends. I know I should be stressing & researching to organize my post-grad life, but I love this feeling of not worrying about school for now. Next quarter is going to be super busy, busy, busy! I should enjoy my time of being a bum.

Meet our Christmas tree :]
Me & my sister decided to go with red & gold this year. Go Trojans?

Care package to the Pomona kids :] What a fun day!
The campus was beautiful. I really enjoyed exploring & walking around.

Visiting Shawn at Pepperdine :] A beautiful campus as well!
If I've known about the schools beyond UC's, I would have totally
looked into smaller schools. But my mind-set was too Asian in high school :[

Christmas/White Elephant Party at the Cho's :]

Gingerbread house-making with the girls :]

Thank you God for family, friends, winter break, yummy food, music, electric blankets, & Christmas decorations!
I finally got to watch Cloudy, with a chance of Meatballs today. Hahaha what a cute movie! I giggled so much.

compassion

I started my first day at the ER. It was super cool! Okay, seeing patients that were sick wasn't cool, but it was cool how I experienced the intensity on my first day. Because I only got my training last Thursday, I wasn't too familiar yet where all the supplies were & whether or not I could interact with the patients. From the hours I was there, I learned so much; from making the beds, making sure to scrub down every surface with wipes, being available for any doctors or nurses, interacting with the patients, making lab runs every 20 minutes, & most importantly, showing compassion to the patients. As dumb as this is going to sound, I realized that accidents & death happens every single moment, every single day. Observing patients who couldn't take care of themselves & who were in so much pain broke my heart. Thank you God for my health & a family who is healthy. Every patient needs a kind nurse & seriously, I think there's a nurse shortage from all the patients that came into the ER this morning. At least it wont be hard looking for a job after I graduate from nursing school :)

Yay, no school tomorrow! Thank you veterans :)
Time to catch up on my studying.

Update:
I laughed & cringed when I saw this video. But I must admit, this video isn't as bad compared to the other ones. Dang, we look so young & fresh! Roomie love <3

Sunday Morning

It's 7:30am right now, two hours before I need to actually wake up for church. Maybe it's because I slept at 9 last night :) What a awesome, peaceful sleep! The best sleep: did something productive the day before, no worries for tomorrow, & being snuggled in bed with the electric blanket on. Hmmm, maybe I should cook breakfast for my mom & dad since I'm awake anyways. What to make, what to make...? I miss my sister. I wasn't able to see her all weekend :(

"I Could Sing of Your Love Forever" has been stuck in my head since yesterday (It's still playing right now while I'm writing in this blog, hehe).

I could sing of your love forever

"Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their work: If one falls down, his friend can help him up. But pity the man who falls and has no one to help him up!" Ecclesiastes 4:9-10
I feel like this is what fellowship, accountability, and friends are for. In a world filled with temptations & hardships, Christians should be encouraging one another and having a constant drive to be Christ-like, producing fruit, & build lasting Christ-centered relationships with one another. It's so easy to be caught up in our own bubble of friends, to continue to love those who we already love, to hang out for the sole purpose of socializing, & to meet up with those who we get a long with...I realized how important church is in this aspect. God commands us to be a part of a spiritual body for our own good. We need each other to grow up in faith, to learn to serve, to love one another, and to practice forgiveness. Though we are individuals, we still belong with one another. Church isn't what you can receive from it, but rather what you can contribute to it. I thank God for Living Hope, not because of its perfectness but rather because it is imperfect. A lot of times I'm physically exhausted by the time I arrive to Friday nights, but seeing my brothers & sisters from church brings me joy :) During the week when I'm in San Diego, I feel so far away from everyone but I know I'll always have a family to come back too in Diamond Bar. We have room to grow, to learn from one another, to learn how to genuinely love & care, and to having fellowship. I pray to God that Route 28 will be a ministry that is centered around Him and realize that we are all here for one another.
"The body is a unit, though it is made up of many parts; and though all its parts are many, they form one body. So it is with Christ." 1 Corinthians 12:12

Happy Birthday, Living Hope!

Happy Sixteenth Birthday to Living Hope Community Church!
I've only been with this church for less than two years,
but it's been an awesome journey :)

"And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds. Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another - and all the more as you see the Day approaching." Hebrews 10:24-25

invincible?

I always bragged to myself on how my immune system usually never fails me...but sadly, it failed me a little too early this season. I woke up with a sore throat on Monday, then it quickly accumulated into a runny nose, cough, headache, body ache, & fever. I don't know how I did it, but even with a hospital orientation, interview, quiz, test, & midterm, all within a span of three days, I managed to stay alive and fight off my cold. Thank you God & orange juice :) For the past week, my roommates witnessed my pitiful state as I either laid under my blanket reading my lecture notes, or with two tissues stuck in my nose while studying in the living room. No midterms & speeches until next week though! Yay.

I'm finally going to experience being a "Nurse Jackie"! Okay, maybe not a official nurse-nurse, but luckily I got a position in the ER at Scripps Hospital :) I'm super excited. The interviewer told me that it was going to be intense because I'll be seeing a lot of trauma patients who will be needing immediate care. I hope I'll be useful to the doctors, nurses, & patients :)

Danny, Diane, & Stella came down to San Diego yesterday. It was good seeing them in a new environment outside of church! Well, I already saw Danny last week when he came down for CCM, but it feels nice seeing Living Hopers at San Diego. I feel so far from everyone during the week. Haha, seriously I really wish I had the super power to bring San Diego closer to home. But then again, maybe that's what makes it more special when we see each other after a long week. Anyways, I had my first experience at Crab Hut when we all had dinner together (including Paul & Grace) yesterday. Oh man, it was so good :) Shrimp & Crab. YUM! Seafood never fails me. My fingers reeker of garlic, butter, & Old Bay (it still reeks right now), but it was all worth it. Thank you Danny for the food! And thank you for your sermon on "Patience."

Me & Kristina's afternoon photo shoot. I don't know if she'll ever read this but seriously, I have a pretty awesome "roomie in the other room" :) Surprisingly, this girl has so much aegyo (random-acts-of-cuteness) that she only reveals at home. Sometimes I get grossed out (in a good way I guess). Haha, at least I get a good laugh out of it. I'm thankful for her faithfulness to God (you're going to be awesome community group leader!), her constant smile, and her constant encouragement. Someday I'll prove to you, Brian, & Eric that I could do go into the ocean up to my legs!

To sum up my week, I had a pretty crazy ending. So I went to get my TB test read today & the nurse informed me that I tested positive for TB. What the heck?! I was fine when I took the test a year and a half ago. That means I got exposed to someone with TB. Dang you whoever you are. The nurse then directed me to take my X-Ray so off I went being half-scared, half-amused. It was my first time taking an X-Ray! Oh gosh, I had a pretty bad cough for over a month not too long ago but I was stupid enough not to check that out. Hopefully my results will come out good!

fall

San Diego weather is so deceiving. The forecast informed that it was going to rain yesterday and today & I got super excited but all I got was the sun. I'm not complaining, sun is a necessary part of life & vitamin D, but when it's fall, the season should be chilly, gloomy, with leaves on the ground. Almost four years of living in San Diego and I still can't predict the weather. According to weather.com, it's going to be in the mid 70's in San Diego and mid 80's in Diamond Bar. Sigh, another warm weekend back at home. Hurry up and come, fall & winter!

Proverbs 3:5-6 "Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge him, and He will make your paths straight."
James 4:14 "Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes."

"Trust in God." In all honesty, that phrase sounded so cliche whenever I heard it. It's just as hard for me right now to understand and apply it, but I know that I'm not in control of my life. God is my provider and nothing else. No matter how much I want to plan out the nitty-gritty details of my future, that's my own selfishness speaking. It's only second week and already my heart is filled with the thoughts of transitioning after graduating. I know what I want to be - but getting to where I want to be will be perplexing process. I hate thinking about my "what-if's"...What if I knew that I wanted to be a nurse right after graduating high school? Then I would've applied to a school with a undergraduate nursing program. Then I wouldn't be worrying right now about applying for nursing schools. What if I was a biology major. Then I wouldn't have had to take extra prerequisite courses after graduating UCSD and just apply for Fall 2010. Yea, I really shouldn't think about my "what-ifs." I'm going to stop - it's not healthy to dwell on it. There's no point in regretting because ultimately, no matter how much my mom says I wasted my time at San Diego and how I should have transfered to another school with a nursing program, I felt convicted to stay - part because of the laziness of not wanting to deal with the whole transferring process but also because of the memories I built. I know I have to deal with the consequences of my future being unclear after leaving San Diego, but I have God to lean on and lift up my life for the glory of His Kingdom.

Week 1 of fall quarter: Complete!

Started of the quarter with awesome sermons from CCM & Friday night Bible study with Route 28. God's going to do amazing things this year. I feel it! It's slowly hitting me that I'll be graduating college in less than a year. I need to really appreciate my time here in San Diego & La Jolla :) It's so beautiful here & there's so many things I have yet to do! Time to get started on that bucket list.

Iced Vanilla Chai Tea Latte at Starbucks is no bueno.

John 13:12-17

"...Do you understand what I have done for you?" he asked them. "You call me 'Teacher' and 'Lord,' and rightly so, for that is what I am. Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another's feet. I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you. I tell you the truth, no servant is greater than his master, nor is a messenger greater than the one who sent him. Now that you know these things, you will be blessed if you do them."

Jesus set the example. We just follow.

091909

My day consisted of:

Cleaning with the family. I want this Hello Kitty vacuum :) Cleaning is pretty much our family ritual we do together every two weeks. Family bonding time? I think I got the "clean" genes from my mama. I love the glistening after-effect!

Watching "Style." I'm ADDICTED to this drama! I just started watching it two days ago, and I'm already hooked. I love Ryu Shi Won [my first celebrity crush ever] & his puppy eyes! Oh gosh. I should finish watching it before school starts. Why are dramas so addicting??

I enjoy the life of a homebody. But going back to San Diego tomorrow!

I love going to coffee shops nowadays, simply to be productive and not productive at the same time. I don't know why but I love the atmosphere! I could handle the background noise with my trusty ipod in my ears. On the side note, did you know that the newest ipods has video cameras installed?!! Technology is crazy...I wish America can catch up with Korea's phone technology and bring the phones where you can video chat with the other person on the line.

So I came out of my house today to escape the heat, to be productive in finding a job, to research some more nursing schools, and to catch up on my journaling. I always feel like an overachiever when I'm just sitting at a coffee shop (I chose it's-a-grind today). At least I'm catching up on my blogging :) hehe. We'll see how much work I get done.

Random Fact:
I love my morning glory notebooks. I used to have a bajillion notebooks for everything and anything you can imagine. I remember having one with my friends (pretty much a gossip notebook) in middle school, a notebook to write down who I had a crush on with reasons why I liked them (this was middle school also!), a notebook to write down specifically what I did everyday, a notebook for celebrity crushes, a notebook for church sermons, a notebook for prayer requests, a notebook to budget my money...As you can predict, I pretty much lost track of having a notebook for everything so I decided to cut down to two notebooks; one for sermon notes, prayer requests, QTs, & journaling and another one to budget my money. Whew, it's so much easier like this :)

I wonder how the story will end this time...

♥ ♥ ♥

School starts in in about a week.
My last year of college! How crazy is that?!
I still remember my first year as a lost little freshmen...

...and now I'm finally a Senior!
I need to start making a bucket list. Seriously.

MC Hee-chic & Bird-rome

yay we finally reunited again this week. We're better as two (; From grocery shopping, cooking dinner, eating fruits & soodah-ing like ajoomas, watching youtube videos, & doing P-BTF (partial bedtime fellowship), it was fun having the roommate back. Have fun at retreat this weekend!

Steph introduced me to my new favorites: 2PM! There's a total of 7 in the group, and I've never studied so hard to get their names & faces down. I FINALLY GOT IT DOWN THOUGH. They're entertaining to watch on variety shows :) Humorus/funny guys=two thumbs up!

Book-worm

I've never been really a book-worm, unlike my sister who went to Barnes & Nobles pretty much every weekend when we were kids. She would buy tons of books, finish in a day, & I would read it after her when I got tired of playing Nintendo or when I needed to fall asleep. My favorite books when I was a kid: Sweet Valley series, Roald Dahl books, Goosebumps, American Girl collection, & Encyclopedia Brown. In high school, the only books I read were the school-required ones & Harry Potter. Nowadays, (I surprise myself) I actually enjoy reading for fun :) Guess I'm a late born book-worm.

Simplicity

I love simplicity -- simple relationships, simple books, simple foods, simple music, simple instructions, simple love. There's just too many complications that parallels with getting older & it follows me constantly. I hate seeing my parent stress out about money. I hate seeing my friend lose the people she loves to cancer. I hate how the economy is affecting families in huge financial ways. But the one thing I want to hold onto, even amongst the tribulations & doubts, is the childlike faith God asks from His children.

"I tell you the truth, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven." Matthew 18:3

500 Days of Summer

Tagline: Boy meets girl. Boy falls in love. Girl doesn't.

What a twist from the usual "Girl meets boy. Girl falls in love. Boy doesn't." There were so many random cuteness & funniness throughout! And the good thing about the movie: there weren't a lot of provocative scenes [unlike "The Ugly Truth"<--Funny movie though. <3 Gerald Butler]. Yay for PG-13.

Its-A-Grind

Drink of choice: Mango Green Tea Smoothie

I'm at the Its-A-Grind in Irvine right now, listening to music & watching movies, while waiting for my friend to finish tutoring. I love coffee shops with free WiFi :) They should provide unlimited internet usage at Starbucks too.

Going back to the Hometown

I'm going to San Jose in a week with my sister! My hometown<3 I haven't seen my baby cousins in SO long. The last time I saw them was about five years ago (third & first graders) when they came to visit us in Diamond Bar. Now one of them is in the big world with middle schoolers & the younger one is going up to sixth grade. Awwww my little-lings are growing up super fast. ONE MORE WEEK :)

But until then, VBS is this week!!! GO CAMP E.D.G.E!!! Kids are just darn too adorable :)

Sandy Eggo

By request of Andy, I decided to make my own blog! At least I'll have one person who'll follow it :) Welcome to the blog world, Jackie.

I came down to San Diego last night and even though it's only been three weeks since school ended, I missed it mucho! Maybe not so much of the schooling & studying, but just being back with the people. What was the first thing that I did when I came back to my apartment? Chit-chat with the roomies & vacuum. I'm back! I felt so relaxed & stress-freed watching dramas on our pink futon, while Kristina was writing her lab report right next to me. Oh, the benefits of not having summer school & just worrying about playing the next day. I feel as if I should start with my SD bucket list. There's so many places I have yet to explore & foods I have yet to eaten.

Seriously, this drama is getting so good!
